Program Description

All programs are aimed at adults, but suitable for all ages:

"Historic Route 66: A Journey through History," a virtual tour of the Mother Road explaining its history, connnections to Chicago, and the things people can see from Illinois to California on the road today.

"Route 66 on a Tank of Gas: The Mother Road and More in Illinois," a look at the road building programs in Illinois that led to the creation in Illinois along the world's most famous highway, including some of the sites people can see today within the state without spending a lot on fuel.

"The Roads that Lead to Lincoln: Honest Abe on the Historic Highways of Illinois," a program that describes Lincoln's political, professional, and family life in Illinois from 1831-1861, the somber return of his remains after his assassination in 1865 on the Funeral Train, and a tour of historic Lincoln sites that can be visited on or near Route 66, the Great River Road, and the Lincoln Highway within the Land of Lincoln.

"No Little Plans: The Roads of Daniel Burnham's Plan of Chicago," a program that goes beyond the known aspects of the Burnham Plan for downtown Chicago to explore its plan for encircling and radiating highways.

His presentations are NOT "book talks" that are specifically related to any products that he is looking to sell, although he does value the ability to sell his books after the program at the venue if patrons are interested. If the library would like to have his program at a reduced rate, he may talk more about his books during the program in order to add value. Those interested but needing price assistance should inquire about discounts.
